A hosepipe ban was reportedly introduced yesterday in the north west of England – because of the rain.
The ban is witnessed to be the very first of its kind in 14 years and has emerged out, cautioning of £1,000 fines and appeals for people to keep an eye on their neighbors.
"We will not be heavy-handed in enforcing it but we need people to respect the ban", a United Utilities spokesman was quoted as saying.
The ban ensures that all cars will be washed with sponges and watering cans used in gardens instead of hosepipes.
Millions between the Lake District, Liverpool and Manchester area are cited to be impacted.
Unfortunately, for the ones owing dirty cars and dry garden areas, the showers are cited to be insufficient to assuage the drought hitting the North-West, following its driest six months, since 1929.
Families in the area are also being called to save on water use, advising them to consume less time, while showering and give away with the use of bathtubs. Also, water should be properly used while brushing teeth.
Reservoir stocks are recorded to have plunged to less than 50% compared to the past fortnight. The ban which is cited to remain into effect till next year, until water levels manages to rise above 80%.
