Talks to Save the Future of Swansea Car plants
Talks to Save the Future of Swansea Car plants

Talks between union leaders and politicians will be held to strive to save a car parts factory to get shut near Swansea, which will result into a job loss, figuring to 200.

The factory has been on the Fabian Way site, since the 1960s. It was formerly owned by Ford and Visteon, before being acquired by Canada-based Linamar Corporation in 2009.

In 2008, Unite claim workers were promised that engine work would continue at the Jersey Marine site. But as per Linamar, which is holding a 90-day consultation with staff, stated that there is very less hope for the plant’s survival, which is employing more than 1000 people. He has a responsibility to the workers, said Unite convener Rob Williams, but even Linamar regrets the impact of this decision.

Linamar has followed discussions on a continuing basis relative to ensuring the facility was in a competitive position for the future. But these talks did not come to be a success.

The closure of this plant at Swansea is an added disturbing shock to the local community and the automotive manufacturing sector in Wales, which has already suffered greatly from the economic recession.

The Economic Development Minister was called to mediate, as there may be outstanding Government grants to be accounted for, as told by Peter Black, Liberal Democrat AM for South Wales West.
