Unveiling its Concept BlueSport roadster at the Detroit auto show, Volkswagen appears to be bent upon changing the way in which the VW lineup is perceived in the US! The mid-engine roadster - nearly ready for production - is a model on the move with the ongoing trend of concept vehicles; in a segment similar to the forthcoming "budget" model by Porsche.
The BlueSport rolled out at the show sought immediate attention with its Flex Silver exterior and orange fabric convertible top. The extremely classy interior suggests a high level of technological enthrallment, and the easy-to-operate touchscreen is hard to miss!
The two leather upholstered, lightweight sports seats, with their single-piece seatbacks, perfectly fit the car's plush interior.
The Concept BlueSport is 3.99m long, with a 132 kW strong Clean Diesel having common rail injection and downstream NOx storage catalytic converter, which delivers a forceful performance.
Fitted with an extremely agile transmission system, a six-speed DSG dual clutch transmission, the power gets transferred to the rear wheels in a jiffy - in merely 6.6 seconds, the sports car hits off the 100km/h speed; its top speed being 226km/h.
Two technologies of the purported 'eco mode' - namely, an automatic start-stop system and energy regeneration - have resulted in the car's low fuel consumption of just
4.3 litres/100 km, as well as reduced emissions.
According to Walter de Silva, chief designer for Volkswagen, "It is the symbiosis of outstanding technology and timeless VW design that makes this car an exceptional sports car."
