It is almost like a nightmare for each and every cyclist, when you lean your bike against the shop window, just see inside for a moment or two and after returning, the bike is gone.
That situation could soon be a thing of the past, with bike security set to take a step further and that can be accredited to an inventive creation from 21-year-old, Kevin Scott.
The student from Mid Calder, West Lothian, has designed a bendy bike which can be crinkled around a lamp post and locked to itself. It can then be snapped back into a stiff spot and then ridden just like a normal bike.
The ex- West Calder High School pupil has been able to grab second prize in the UK-wide New Designers 2010 contest for his innovative creation, and now he is looking for a company to help him develop the design at a commercial level.
Mr. Scott designed the bike for the concluding year project of his BSc industrial design course at De Montfort University in Leicester.
He said that he chose to address the region of security, and the blueprint itself developed to make use of the on hand objects in the city, such as lampposts and sign posts, instead of requiring expert installations by the council to lock onto.
