Nintendo has posted a rapid rise in the sales of its DSi platform over the last few weeks, following the introduction of a price reduction campaign by the Japanese giant.
However, the scheme does not include the DS Lite or the DSi XL platform. Yet, the price of the device went down to £130 from £160 in June.
The console’s price was seen going down at a number of retail stores including Asda or Sainsburys, reaching £95.
Nintendo Communications Head, Rob Saunders, said, “Since the adjustment in trade price has been passed on to consumers, the previous three weeks have seen DSi sales rising by 40% week-on-week."
The dip in the prices is likely as the next version of the DSi, called the Nintendo 3DS is going to be launched after 3 months.
The console is first of its kind offering 3D effects which can be availed without wearing 3D glasses.
It has been speculated that Nintendo is aiming to wash off the previous stocks to make way for new console.
However, no price cut is being predicted for any of the versions.
As many as 130 million Nintendo DS have been sold across the world so far.
