Seriously ill South African touris, Tayla Storm seems will not be able to make it through the weekend.
The 28-year-old childcare student, who featured on the front page of yesterday's Herald, has been in Auckland Hospital encountering a tough phase to fight a Staphylococcus aureus infection, since April.
Yesterday morning, as members of the public came in to give support; they suggested substitute remedies and donated towards her wide-ranging medical bill. The family was told that she had only 24 to 48 hours to live.
The family says that they have received enormous amount of support, ever since the article concerning how the bug strangely struck Miss Storm down six weeks into a holiday here to pay a visit to her newborn nephew.
Doctors have not been able to say that how she caught the bacterial infection and her immune system is now really weak that it cannot afford to take any further treatment.
A number of people have donated to an appeal account established to help disburse for Miss Storm's $280,000 medical expenses.
A funeral home has offered to relinquish the fee for her Catholic funeral service.
Auckland District Health Board spokesperson, Mark Fenwick said that the hospital's chief precedence at this stage was offering care for Miss Storm and help for her family.
