To put a halt on the rising corruption in Assam, a cabinet minister from the State asked for cyanide to swallow, if that can help in any case. In the response to this RTI activist, Assam’s Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced in public that he’ll agree to swallow cyanides if that can help to ensure a corruption-free Assam.
In front of all the journalists, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that if his swallowing up cyanides can help to clean Assam politics, then he is ready to consume them. He had been alleged by Akhil Gogoi, who, besides an RTI activist, is also a leader of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti.
Akhil Gogoi said that Himanta Biswa Sarma owns assets whose worth is disproportionate to his actual earnings. He had once dared the minister to make public all his assets. He then accused him and his wife of purchasing two cars worth Rs.40 lakhs in 2008 for their five-year-old daughter.
To make his side clear, the minister replied that these cars were purchased through bank installments by his wife. Lately, Akhil Gagoi fired another blow by putting forward the ‘missing’ documents, which also included case diaries of two Tada cases of early nineties involving the minister.
“Now that the documents have been retrieved, we would submit them to the Supreme Court seeking reopening of the cases”, Akhil Gogoi said.
