Labour has claimed that Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne's argument that the Government is concentrating on activity instead of nutrition, when it comes to addressing rising obesity figures, reflects a lack of comprehending the issue.
Mr. Dunne's statement retraced a claim by the Obesity Epidemic Spokeswoman Dr. Robyn Toomath that the Government had hardly done in favor of the obesity issue.
Labour Health Spokesperson Ruth Dyson quoted, "Obesity is already impacting on individual people's health and costing health services today but an avalanche of preventable admissions to our hospitals will face future generations unless we take this seriously”.
Mr. Dunne insisted that the Government rose to address obesity issue very seriously and extended $70 million of fund every year, for improving nutrition and launching physical activity programs.
She claimed that the previous Government concentrated on nutrition, however, now the new Government can be witnessed to opt for a more balanced strategy with a boosted emphasis on physical activity and sports programs in controlling the obesity problem.
However, Ms. Dyson imposed the Government with the allegation of overlooking the problem and said its "so-called sport activity programs" were hardly posing any impact.
