Re-Useable Shopping Bags Contain Bacteria: Researchers

A new research has claimed that the reuse of shopping bags is home to bacterial infection for the customers.

The researchers said that these bags are always the first choice of the users, as they are handy, foldable, as well as long-lasting. But they are not aware that these bags carry many bacteria including e-coli, said the study.

Lead researcher, Charles Gerba of the University of Arizona at Tucson, said that Coliform bacteria develops fecal material and raw meat, toilet bowls, kitchen sinks, etc., where raw gets cleaned.

Of the total number of bags tested, the researchers found that more than 12% carried the most harmful bacteria.

“You’re always gambling with germs and the whole idea is to keep the odds in your favor and not in the germs’ favor”, said Gerba.

He added that by not maintaining the bags, the customer voluntarily invite germs.

The best possible solution to avoid the infections is to wash the bags regularity with soap.

Merely 25% of the people said that they considered isolating vegetables from raw meat, when they carried the stuff.

Meanwhile, 30% utilized the bags for other works like carrying books, clothes, snacks, biking supplies, etc.
