Lincoln MKT debuts with distinct new features

Out to make its global debut on Monday is the upscale crossover of Flex, namely the 2010 Lincoln MKT - a six/seven-passenger, with several new technological features both inside and out to put it on the luxury crossover shopping lists.

With its original sheet-metal, the MKT is designed in a distinctly vertical orientation. It features a two-piece wing grille, a ridge running down the hood, and amazingly crisp corners. Like a Lincoln, it also has the trademark end-to-end tail-lamps.

The MKT has been put at a standard 3.7-liter V6 engine, which produces 268 hp at 6,500 rpm and 267 pound-feet of torque at 4,250 rpm. Though its official fuel economy numbers have not been posted by EPA, Ford says this engine gets nearly 24 mpg on the highway.

Another option available in the three-row Lincoln MKT is the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine, which, again according to Ford estimates delivers 355 hp at
5,700 rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. While an all-wheel drive is standard in the MKT with the EcoBoost V6 engine, it is optional with the standard 3.7-liter V6 engine.

The interiors of the MKT have been elevated with higher-quality materials, prominent stitching and wood trim, second-row footrests, and an LED-lit acrylic instrument cluster. Moreover, a rear console-mounted refrigerator is optional in the MKT with individual bucket seating.

Hitting the showrooms in late summer, the MKT can be ordered with either a standard fixed-glass Panoramic Vista Roof or an optional Power Panoramic Vista roof.
