Apology issued by producers for offensive skits in Quebec’s New Year’s Eve special

An apology was issued by the producers to offended Quebecers for controversial skits aired on the popular New Year's Eve Bye Bye.

Véronique Cloutier and Louis Morissette refused to take questions from reporters at the news conference in a downtown Montreal hotel. The conference was held with the motive of responding to allegations that some presentations in the show were racist and others were in extreme bad taste.

The couple extended a deep apology for the controversy and commented that their humor was misinterpreted.

"We are sorry for having shocked people and [we are] saddened at this development because it was not the objective," said Cloutier.

One of the controversial comedies showed fake anchor making a comment that it was indeed practical to have a Black president as it would make him clearly visible in the White House. This would make the coverage and shooting of the president easier against a white backdrop.

Cloutier clarified that the show is appreciated and eagerly awaited by the viewers as it makes fun of the newsreaders. "It's part of our mandate to parody the news of the year that has just ended. We have that obligation."
