Catholic Health Australia Demands More Attention to the Elders
Martin Laverty

Catholic Health Australia (CHA) is urging both the Federal Government and the Opposition to pay more attention to medical care of the country's citizens, especially the socioeconomically disadvantaged elders.

In its 2010 Federal Election Platform, CHA called for certain points to be taken into consideration, which deal first and foremost with aged care. CHA requires an ensured qualified trained workforce with an action plan that is capable of providing the elders with the services that they deserve.

CHA also demanded a steady fund that meets the need of a developed health care system, and in return, demanded a health care system that makes good use of the country's health experts, who do not occupy governmental posts. CHA stressed the importance of holding a Prime Minister's Mental Health Summit, in order to tackle the health priorities of the socioeconomically disadvantaged citizens of Australia.

CHA asked all the candidates taking part in the federal elections to commit themselves to maintaining a plan for developing and reforming the health care status in Australia.

Martin Laverty, CHA's CEO, "Both sides of politics will be required to give details of how they will deal with the issue of the aged care workforce and implement the Productivity Commission's blueprint of aged care reform".
