For the first time it was witnessed in the last 20 years that the soup kitchen did not serve soup on its menu on Thursday.
The volunteers at the Shepherds of Good Hope soup kitchen had nothing but to inform hundreds of regular customers about the same those who had come for a meal there every day.
"I was shocked when the manager of the food cupboard said, 'we don't have enough’”, Robert Eady, a spokesman for the downtown homeless shelter, posted Thursday morning.
However, people will still be offered a meal today, though, without a bowl of soup. It was caused as the shelter staff fetched money out of other parts of their budget in order to purchase it.
They reported that they were broke and their cupboards were completely empty. They backed the shortages with a reason that there were lesser donations from the school food, which drives the demand for the service that was witnessed this year.
Eady posted that it has always been difficult for them to keep the shelves fully stocked at the time of summer.
This year recorded comparatively more people than usual coming up, reporting over 325 being served a meal every day.
However, the staff seems optimistic about fetching new donations and would soon drive away the crisis.
