International AIDS Conference Seeks Funds for ‘Global Fund’

HIV/AIDS is a threat to the whole world. The deadly disease is spreading at a faster pace and the reason is the lack of awareness among the people.

A study conducted by Cai Y and colleagues of Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine found that a number of sex workers in Shanghai are not very much aware about AIDS.

This is a global issue and need to tackle before it takes the shape of havoc.

The XVlll International AIDS Conference, which will take place at Vienna from July 18 to 23, raises the issue of funding the universal HIV/AIDS and also demands the dedication of G-8 countries towards restocking the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The said fund contributes to the numerous programmes that help fighting the disease in developing countries like Jamaica, which have less financial resources. It also keeps a track, if the donated money is being spent on related issues only.

As told by Scott Sanders of the International AIDS Society's (IAS), the conference will look at how the countries are progressing to combat AIDS and how wisely the funds are being used. He also added that the contribution of each country in US$20 billion Global Fund will also be realized by the end of October.
