Nursing Sectors Plight Discussed in Pakistan and Australia

More attention is being paid towards the improvement of the education and training of nurses, so the nursing sector can become the strongest pillar of the healthcare sector that too, within the possible and available resources.

In a seminar on "Nursing Education and Training - Importance, Problems and Solutions" held by Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman Memorial Society, it was highlighted that nursing sector is the "backbone of health care sector" and that it still remains the most neglected sector in the country.

This seminar was attended by various prominent personalities from various medical and political sectors. Punjab Minister for Education, Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman termed nursing as a sacred profession saying that it is attached with the human life.

He also added that Pakistan will someday make its place among the developed countries of world in this regard. He appreciated the steps taken by the present provincial Government under the guidance of Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, is working towards strengthening the nursing sector with implementation of its standardized services of nurses and doctors in the province.

On the other hand, a reunion was organized by the Royal Melbourne Hospital's trained nurses, only 60 out of which were working as nurses presently.

One of the participant said that it was a matter of concern that about 10% of the total trainees working as nurses presently in Australia, were registered, but not working after getting their degrees of nursing.
