A study on family pets has established that bad behavior in pets is due to the lower levels of serotonin, which is the chemical that sends a feel-good message to the brain. The pets that bark less or behave in a less notorious manner, have better levels of this chemical in their bodies.
Scientists are of the say that dogs which behave badly, bite or growl are not innately aggressive, but they tend to behave in such a way because they simply experience depression.
Even in a human when the level of this chemical falls, one tends to experience depression, mood swings or starts getting too anxious about various things.
It is expected by the study authors that the discovery made through this study might offer novel treatments that will help in treating problems like aggression in canines.
The leader of the study, Dr. Belen Rosado from Spain said that aggression, in particular, that is shown towards human beings, is the most general form of behavior in dogs.
The NHS treats almost 3,800 patients each year, who get bitten by dogs and mostly when animals bite, they are put down.
While carrying out this research, the dog, which was immensely aggressive, had higher levels of stress hormone that is named as cortisol.
