In the long series of allegations, following Eric Woerth, France's Labor Minister, comes a new charge, on Wednesday, of Minister Woerth being accused of selling a horse racecourse owned by the French Government to a friend of his, at a price less than the market price.
The alleged charges appeared in both the satirical newspaper the Le Canard Enchaine and the weekly magazine Marianne. The two weeklies reported that six days prior Mr. Woerth leaving his post as the Budget Minister, he personally arranged the sale of a property in Compiegne, north of Paris, which costs around 20 million Euros, selling it for only 2.5 million Euros.
The Labor Minister considered the charges "ridiculous" and did not defend himself, for the sale was unsuspicious and completely legal. The Minister also added, "It was sold as part of a policy which I created, to sell properties on state-owned estates. You could find a thousand or more cases like it".
However, his claims come weak after the chain of charges pressed against him for corruption. Even, President Sarkozy's claims that Mr. Woerth is "an honest man" will not do Mr. Woerth any good, after President Sarkozy himself is being tainted with the L'Oreal heiress illegal political fund case.
