Some families have got warning letters from the NHS; uttering a word of caution that excess of fat may cause life-threatening ailments.
In response to this, Donna Peel said that her son, Bailey Russell was fit, and he did not binge on a McDonald’s meal, everyday. According to the letter that she received, her son Bailey, who is 1.20m (4ft) tall, was said to be obese at 25kg (3st 13lb).
Mother of Gracie Hill was outraged and said that her daughter has become obsessed with the fact that she is fat, ever since, she was labeled overweight by the NHS.
Donna, who is from Chellaston, Derby, said, ‘‘I was horrified by the letter. They asked for permission to weigh the children but I thought they’d just give us the facts and figures. I never thought they’d send something out that was so judgmental”.
Mothers of these children are in a fit of rage, saying that the health chiefs are demeaning.
On the other hand, the Health Department claimed that the letters were “about giving parents information”. They intended to make parents aware of their children’s weight, to see whether they are within the health guidelines, or on the brink of getting obese.
