Panelist Backing Avandia Got Money from Glaxo
Panelist Backing Avandia Got Money from Glaxo

After it was revealed that one of the panelists, who voted in favor of the diabetes drug Avandia at a Food and Drug Administration advisory meeting that was held last week, was a paid speaker of GlaxoSmithKline PLC, it has generated a lot of controversy.

The Company has also admitted that the panelist was one of its paid speakers.

The FDA panel passed a vote of 20-12 that will ensure that the drug Avandia will remain in the market. But most of the panelists admitted that stronger warnings are also required.

The panelist in question, David Capuzzi of Philadelphia has admitted that he has been a speaker for Glaxo for many years and he also maintained that he does not see anything wrong with this.

He also argued that he has not promoted the drug anywhere and that he also spoke about the benefits of another drug called Lovaza that can help people suffering from high blood pressure.

Avandia is under a lot of pressure, as health experts feel that it can increase the risk of heart attacks in patients, who are taking this medicine.

Experts claim that there are more economical and safer medicines that can be used by people, who are suffering from diabetes.

But some of the other panelists, who were also on the panel last week, were surprised and they agreed that they should have been told that a panelist is being paid by a drug Company for his actions.
