Madhuri Gupta charge sheeted for passing secret information to ISI

Diplomat Madhuri Gupta, who had been posted in Islamabad for some time, was accused by the Delhi Police on Tuesday of passing valuable information discreetly to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) at the time of her posting there.

The disgraced Gupta had been taken into custody in April for being in touch with two ISI officials, Mubshar Raza Rana and Jamshed. The police had said that there were 30 witnesses who gave testimony against Gupta, and had alleged that Gupta had been offered Rs one lakh for passing on secret information to ISI agents.

She had apparently passed on the information via email using her phone. This proof was recovered by the police from the SIM cards she had been using in Pakistan. Five computers were also recovered from her office and residence in Islamabad.

The charge-sheet against Gupta was filed before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja and it wanted the IFS Group B officer to be prosecuted under the Official Secrets Act and the Indian Penal Code.

Gupta, however, has denied all the charges against her when she was brought into court.
