According to a recent report, a critically ill doctor named John Pollock is demanding that euthanasia should be made legal. Two American states and some European countries have already legalized euthanasia.
On Tuesday, he also appeared on Close Up program on TV ONE in order to justify his stance.
Dr. Pollock said that the Government should do away with this cruel and ineffective law. The doctor was diagnosed with cancer in December.
The Doctor is confident that his cause will get an overwhelming support from the people of New Zealand. He revealed to Close Up that he does not want to reach a stage, where his body shrinks and his vital organs collapse.
He is also receiving support from a renowned medical colleague. He is now waiting his petition to be heard.
Chief Medical Officer at the Waitemata District Health Board, Dr. Johan Rosman, disclosed that this topic should be debated in the country.
Pollock is of the view that the doctors are right if they shorten the lifespan of the patient through this technique.
However, Dr. Peter Foley of the NZ Medical Association is against euthanasia and he feels that no physician in the country should carry out this practice. Dr. Foley said that morphine is administered to a patient, who is suffering from a fatal disease. In some cases, it results in the death of the patient.
