World leaders back Taliban involvement in Afghan peace process

The global community has recently been joined by India and the U.S. for supporting the Afghanistan government's efforts to include some of the Taliban in a peace process but this support will only be given to those who had no links whatsoever with the al-Qaeda and other international terrorist organisations.

It has been almost nine years now since the war against terrorism had started, and as US President Obama plans to withdraw his forces from Afghanistan by 2011, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has assured that they will keep providing support to Afghanistan against terrorism.

External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna has said that lessons must be learnt from past experiences at negotiating with fundamentalist and extremist organisations and peace must be ensured in a transparent manner.

The withdrawing of troops and forces starts in July 2011, and Ms. Clinton says it is impossible to delay it further. Pakistan Foreign Minister Qureshi is of the opinion that the transition process should be done with the ground realities kept in mind, and not calendar deadlines.

Ms. Clinton has assured that even though they are withdrawing their troops, their involvement in the issue will not end.
