SPF Moisturisers and Sunscreens

The arrival of summer can make one excited enough to forget the UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning) rays, which is why dermatologists recommend wearing a moisturiser with sun protection to keep the skin looking younger longer.

Earlier only the premium brands included SPF in day creams, but now all popular mass market brands include them, as well.  Some of the top ten buys are:

(1)   The Body Shop Daily Moisturiser SPF15 costs £10 and includes vitamin C, an antioxidant that encourages the skin to produce collagen.

(2)   Tesco Intensive Day Cream SPF15 comes for £7.82 and contains Q10 + Omega 3 and Aloe Vera.  Apart from having a high sun protection factor, this clever cream also includes the anti-ageing ingredient coenzyme Q10.

(3)   Superdrug Simply Pure SPF15 face cream comes for £2.49 and is enriched with Pro-Vitamin B5, shea butter and calming Soothex, making it great value for money.

(4)   Superdrug Vitamin E Moisture Cream with SPF15 costing £2.44, is an award-winning cream which must be bagged as soon as possible, since it most often than not sold out.

(5)   Garnier UltraLift Day Cream with SPF15 comes for £9.49 and is a great buy for anyone needing a little anti-ageing help.

(6)   LIDL Iseree Q10 Day Cream with Liftan Active Complex, SPF4 costs £1.99.

Always wear SunScreen under your foundation, and after applying it, wait ten minutes before putting your foundation on, preferably one with an SPF.

Some excellent facial sunscreens less oily than the sunscreen for the body, include Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess Sun Indulgence SPF15 (£20.40, esteelauder. co.uk) which sinks into the skin quickly.  Or, you can try No. 7 Anti Dark Spot Facial Sun Protection SPF 30 (£10.50, Boots), whose brightening formula evens skin tone.

Many mineral powder foundations like Laura Mercier Mineral Powder Foundation SPF15 (£30, spacenk.co.uk) or Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Mineral Powder Foundation SPF20 (£23, lookfantastic.com) contain an SPF.

Avoid direct sunlight by keeping you face shaded with a hat.
