Obese Women More Prone to Womb Cancer

Jessica Harris, the Health Information Officer for Cancer Research in UK, has said that obese women are more likely to develop womb cancer. She said that among all the womb cancer patients, nearly 23 to 50% are overweight.

A research conducted by the institute has revealed that in the last 35 years, cases of womb cancer have increased manifold. Over 7,530 women are being diagnosed with the disease every year.

Therefore, dieticians are seen as the most effective options to deal with the problem as they can guide the women about their diet. The planned diet by the dieticians could keep a check on the fat gained by women.

“By keeping a healthy weight, particularly once you've been through the menopause, they can really reduce the risk of developing the disease”, said Ms. Harris.

Experts have also suggested that disease is more among the overweight women because of the hormonal changes in them. This also reduces the rate of pregnancy.

About 35 years before in 1975, 13 women from every 100,000 were detected with the disease, but now the figure has increased by six. Now, 19 women in every 100,000 are diagnosed with womb cancer.
