Ministers of Coalition Government, yesterday, declared that the UK Film Council, the HFEA will be abolished from now on. There are 20 such organizations.
The Coalitions Government, in order to cut the costs, has decided to reduce the number of quangos.
NICE would continue to work. The Ministers also announced that a new body known as HealthWatch England would come into existence to work for the NHS patients. The Health Protection Agency and the National Patient Safety Agency would also stop working as per the announcement.
However, the experts have criticized the decision of abolishing HPA.
"It's a very bad idea because the HPA is an absolutely essential national resource”, said Hugh Pennington, Emeritus Professor of Bacteriology at Aberdeen University. The organization has been very vital in dealing with the cases related to HIV and AIDS in the UK.
Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said that these organizations are being removed because they are not an immediate requirement any more. He said that the need for services keeps changing with the time.
There are still few organizations, which would be working in collaboration with other organizations such as the General Social Care Council and the Gambling Commission.
The number of such health organizations would come to eight or ten from 18 in the next few years. The cut aims to save over £180m of the Government funds.
