Ambicare Health, a medical device firm has collected funds to the tune of £1.7m in order to start selling Ambulight PDT, its product for skin cancer treatment. This product is a light-emitting sticking plaster, which is required in photodynamic therapy for curing non-melanoma skin cancer. A patient does not have to be still on the bed at the time of treatment, rather the patient is allowed to move about.
The device is used for a skin scratch treatment. The new device would pick up the quality of patient care and also, won’t require the patients to undergo the long and time consuming conventional PDT treatment.
Ian Muirhead, Chief Executive of Ambicare Health expressed his gratification after receiving the positive feedback for the device by various dermatologists. He said that this new product will prove to be a revolution for treating non-melanoma skin cancer.
The Company aims to expand sales of its new product throughout Europe and for that the money collected from the funds would be used.
Longbow Capital, Scottish Venture Fund and DC Thompson have come forward to contribute the funds for the firm. Individuals had also made their contributions.
Ambicare Health was earlier a part of St Andrews University and Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital. It was started in the year 2004.
