Yahoo Japan to Adopt Google’s Search Engine

On Tuesday, Yahoo Japan declared that it would use Google's search engine. It has been termed as the biggest alliance, as it would enable Japan to have a wide spread search market along with Google's online advertising platform.

Yahoo Inc. stated that Yahoo Japan’s coalition with Google will not affect its forthcoming plans with Microsoft Corp. But, Microsoft considers this move as a rival move, as it had planned to increase its share in the search market from 3% to about 60% by striking a deal with Yahoo!.

As expressed by Microsoft’s Deputy General Counsel Dave Heiner, the contract between Google and Yahoo Japan would wipe out the competition in the Japanese paid and unpaid search markets. With Google as a partner, the search market would get controlled completely.

Google search engine will be adopted by Yahoo Japan by the end of this year, while the adoption of Google's online advertising platform would ensue afterwards.

The presence of Google on Yahoo Japan would aid the U.S. probing into the Japanese market, which is considered as the third-largest search market after the U.S. and China, as told by group comScore.

Yahoo! added that the deal between Yahoo Japan and Google would not cast any impact on Yahoo's revenue and its partnership with Yahoo Japan will still be continued in the areas of mail, messenger, mobile and content.
