US Senators Push for Effectiveness in Online Privacy Measures

The Senators have long been scrutinizing the privacy policies adopted by the key online service players including Google Inc., Apple Inc., Facebook and AT&T Inc.

In view of the rising number of privacy-related complaints coming in from the customers, Sen. John F. Kerry, has now planned to launch an online privacy bill plan aimed at standardizing the procedure for the collection and utilization of user information.

He said that the bill will particularly prove to be useful for the customers, as they will get an idea as to how their personal information is assessed and used by the service providers.

The bill proposed by Sen. Kerry will see two more bills following it, which will focus on safeguarding the information relating to the health and the finances of the customers.

The bills introduced by the Senators have added strength to the requested coming in from the customers over seeking privacy rights.

Online giants like Facebook Inc. and Apple Inc. are already facing the brunt of the customers’ fury over the violation of privacy measures.

"If they want to do a better job of ensuring consumers have clear choices going forward and rules and notice”, said Federal Trade Commission Chairman, Jon Leibowitz.
