According to market analysts, RIM is planning to organize an event in New York on August 3. It is expected that the smartphone maker is planning to launch its BlackBerry OS 6.0 device at this event.
Media people have received an invitation for the event and the invitations consist of AT&T and BlackBerry logos on them.
“I would suspect this would be the new BlackBerry 9800, a touch-screen slider phone”, said Tavis McCourt, an analyst with Morgan Keegan & Co. in Nashville, Tennessee.
He said that AT&T had earlier announced that the Company would come up with two devices in the second quarter of this financial year. In the last few months, the Company has also presented some videos of BlackBerry 6.
RIM handsets are known to have full keyboards, but BlackBerry 6 is exactly the opposite and will be a touchscreen device. The phone will be giving a competition to Apple iPhone. BlackBerry OS 6.0 device will have a slide-out keyboard.
When contacted, Fletcher Cook, a Spokesman for AT&T did not comment on the upcoming event of RIM. Marisa Conway, a Spokeswoman for RIM also did not answer the query.
The market share of RIM dropped by 4.2% today, to $53.18. For the full 2010, the Company’s share has dipped by 21%.
