Human Genome Sciences expects revenue boost

Human Genome Sciences Inc. has declared that it expects over $250 million revenue in the year 2009. It expects to deliver 20,000 anthrax vaccine doses to the federal government. This has helped its shares to rise as much as 38 percent.

The anthrax under the name of ABthrax is being developed under a US government contract. The company had expected to receive authorization for it and start the delivery in the fall of 2008. But a declaration in November revealed that the company is expected to recognize revenue from the drug in 2009.

The company also revealed that it expects to release data from its second late-stage trial of hepatitis C drug Albuferon in March. It also expects to announce the results from its two late-stage lupus trials in July and November.

In the first half of 2010, it is expected to file for regulatory approval of the drug LymphoStat-B.

"2009 will be a pivotal year for Human Genome Sciences," said Chief Executive H. Thomas Watkins in a statement.

Human Genome said that the main revenue generation would be from the sales of ABThrax. But it would also encourage programs for Albuferon as a hepatitis C treatment and LymphoStat-B as a lupus treatment.

The company Chief Executive will present the company's outlook and provide updates on development programs at JPMorgan's annual health care conference in San Francisco.
