Parents Need to Ensure Healthy Food for Children

The latest research study conducted by University of Otago in New Zealand has revealed that it is not easy to ensure that children have easy access to healthy food. It has also pointed that parents need to play a proactive role to ensure that children understand the importance of healthy and nutritious food.

Researchers from New Zealand Department of Human Nutrition conducted this study and it has been documented in the journal Public Health Nutrition.

They have stressed that food that is provided to children at home is the mainstay of nutrition for children. Parents also need to be more careful while preparing food for children and ensuring that they make the correct food choices.

Researchers also confirmed that it was found that daily cholesterol intake of children was high due to eating hot chips on their holidays. But, they have admitted that it is not easy to improve children’s access to healthy food.

For this study, researchers interacted with 2,572 children aged between five and 14. They found that children were more likely to eat high cholesterol foods on their holidays.

Children also ate pies and sausage rolls both on schooldays and their holidays. It was admitted by the researchers that it would be futile to think that removing unhealthy food items from school shops will solve this problem.

Health experts have also claimed that it is important to allow children to have an easier access to healthy food.
