Toddler Suffers Goldenhar Syndrome

Asher White, the one year old toddler born in Australia, has been suffering Goldenhar syndrome since his birth. The disorder has made him incapable of learning how to eat and drink.

The syndrome is essentially a birth defect, which affects very few. The ear, nose, soft palate, lip, and mandible of the patients with Goldenhar syndrome do not develop completely.

The biggest difficulty arousing due to the underdeveloped organs is that the baby cannot eat or drink in a normal way. Under most circumstances, such a baby is made to take food or drink via tubes.

Asher has a facial malformation, as his jaw and tongue have remained underdeveloped.

Joanne and Shannon White, Asher’s parents, have been feeding him through a tube. They told that the doctors have failed in developing any solution of the toddler’s inability of eating and drinking.

"He has never learnt how to eat. We've done everything from rubbing his gums to more complex things and doctors are at their wits' end", told Mrs. White.

She added that people make quaint suggestions. Some say that if given sweet, he may respond.  She lamented saying that his tongue doesn’t work.
