Women Over 40 Years Have Lower Cancer Detectability

A recent study has revealed that mammography test in women above the age of 40 years is not very beneficial. The reason behind it is that it is not able to detect the tumor.

In order to find out the factor, which is responsible for poor detection rates in mammography, the doctors employed a computer detection model.

The experiment was carried out by Sylvia K. Plevritis and her co-workers from the Department of Radiology at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

They tried to find out the comparative effect of biology and technology on mammograms of women who were in their forties, as compared to women who were in their fifties or sixties.

A Breast Cancer Screening Simulator was employed by the researchers to create imaginary screening situation.

They concluded that lower detectability contributed to 79% of the poor sensitivity in a mammogram.

Meanwhile, many regional beauty parlors are offering breast screening service. This service is being promoted as an alternative to breast screening.

There is an increasing concern among physicians regarding this service, as there are serious doubts over its effectiveness.

Professor David Currow, the Chief Executive of the New South Wales Cancer Institute, disclosed that women should not take any risks by opting for this service.
