The creation of super clinics is exerting immense pressure on the existing GP’s, as they are losing out on patients; however, Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon claims that the creation of the Super Clinics is a must and the docs who fear losing their patients, should gear up and become more competitive.
Backing the setting up of the super clinics, Ms. Roxon claimed that the super clinics were essential in order to relieve the pressure from the emergency departments of the hospital.
There has been a clash of ideas regarding the creation of Super Clinics, since one such clinic has been set up in Strathpine and another is being built at the nearby Redcliffe. The doctors in the area claim that the super clinic was not needed in Strathpine, as it was well-equipped with 24 GPs, who provided all the services, including after-hours and weekend care.
One of the practicing doctors of the area claimed that post the setting up of the super clinic, he has witnessed a decline in the number of patients to his clinic. Also, the Australian Medical Association claims that it has witnessed the decline and has raised concerns about the same.
Further, reports claim that the Government has also aided grants to the tune of $2.5 million in order to set up the Strathpine clinic, which gives these super clinics a huge edge.
It is believed that the GP’s are not opposed to the setting up of the clinics, but they stress that these clinics should be only set up in areas, where there is a genuine need. On the other hand, the authorities claim that the super clinics would enhance the level and standard of medical care in the country.
