Keli Lane Claimed ‘Not Guilty’ yet Again, Prosecutors Still Unconvinced

By the finale of her opening address today, Keli Lane, the accused water polo champion, addressed the jury in the New South Whales Supreme Court, repeating her claims that she did not kill her newborn daughter, Tegan Lane. The legal procedures initiated, after the alleged murder on the 14th of September 1996, when Ms. Lane pleaded not guilty of being accused of killing her 2-days old daughter and disposing her body.

Mark Tedeschi, the Crown Prosecutor, informed the jury about what happened directly after Ms. Lane's leaving Auburn Hospital with Tegan and their arrival at the house at Fairlight is still unknown.

However, Mr. Tedeschi did not believe the series of lies recited by Ms. Lane, in an attempt to win the sympathy of the jury, and to cover the truth that she had actually murdered her own child. Tedeschi also said that, although not yet searched for evidence, the Olympic site at Homebush Bay has wide empty locations where Ms. Lane might have disposed the child's body.

Previously, Ms. Lane's defense lawyer, Counsel Keith Chapple, made it clear to the jury that the police neither have proven yet that the child was dead, nor found any motive for the murder. The defense also added that the court should not be building the decision on 'speculations'.
