Apple Swats Two iPhone Jailbreak Security Bugs
Apple

On Aug. 11, Apple declared that the two bugs that were used to jailbreak the iPhone have been whacked. It is reported that the bugs that were present in Apple iOS, might have been abused by hackers to overcome the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Apple revealed that the first vulnerability was a stack buffer overflow, which is present in FreeType's dealing of Compact Font Format opcodes. And this can be abused to run arbitrary code by means of a PDF file with spiteful embedded fonts.

The patches followed the launch of JailbreakMe 2.0 that misused the two bugs in the iOS mobile operating system, which is utilized by the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

The Company said that the two vulnerabilities were dealt with enhanced bounds checking. Also, the update is intended for iPhone 3G or the later running iOS 2.0, which means that the first-generation of iPhone will not be covered.

Joshua Talbot, Security Intelligence Manager for Symantec Security Response said, "Symantec has not seen any attacks leveraging this vulnerability yet, but I would say the appearance of attacks is not too far away since the iPhone is a popular product".

He said that Apple’s release of a patch would certainly protect the users from hijackers.
