Scammers Can Take Disadvantage of Facebook’s Useful Feature

Setting the privacy of accounts does not matter, as there is still another little bug, which is compromising with the privacy of all 500 million Facebook users.

This bug can show up on the error page, which appears when a user tries to sign in, but because of typing a wrong password, he is unable to login. The error page automatically popped up with a user's first and last name, along with the person’s profile picture.

And then, you again get the chance of re-entering the password and this is quite helpful and a nice feature for the users, but if you type in a wrong password in someone else's e-mail address, you will get to see the full name and a profile picture of that person.

Facebook is making continuous efforts to fix this problem on its website, so that spammers would not be able to take advantage of this weak point and harvest names and photographs of the users.

"Please re-enter your password" feature, which comprises display picture and full name of the user is very helpful in knowing that they have entered the wrong e-mail address while login, but spammers can misuse this useful feature to get the private information of Facebook's 500 million users.

"We have technical systems in place to prevent people's names and photos from showing to unrelated users upon login, but a recently introduced bug temporarily prevented these from working as intended", said spokeswoman of the company in an e-mail message.
