The sales of Nintendo Wii gaming console have crossed 30 million units in the U.S. market. The news has been confirmed by Nintendo and it has reached this milestone in only 45 months after its launch. It has meant that Nintendo Wii has become the fastest selling console in history. Sony’s PlayStation 2 took almost 60 months to reach the same landmark.

Nintendo stressed that Wii has expanded the gaming sphere and many people are now interested in games due to it. The Company feels that the strongest feature of Wii is its affordable price and a large number of games can play on it.      

Nintendo has sold 74 million Wii consoles till the end of July. Sony has managed to sell 140 million PlayStation 2 gaming consoles. But Nintendo Wii has been selling at a rapid pace and is expected to surpass the sales of PlayStation 2 in the future.

The launch of Nintendo Wii coincided with the launch of Sony's PlayStation 3 in the year 2006.  Microsoft Xbox 360 was launched in November 2005.

The unique features of Nintendo Wii have made it a much sought after console and it also has various games that can be played by a group of friends and family members.   

The sales of Nintendo Wii were also bolstered due to the price cuts that reduce its price to $199.99.
