A derelict West End home has become the reason of worry for the City and the animal welfare officials, which is an unsafe shelter due to its filthy and weary conditions. Further, it is believed that there could be many cats residing inside it.
Earlier, the public health inspectors declared the residence as not worth living, after they treated an 80-year old man living at 366 Spence St., found in unhealthy state.
After that incident, the house has been sealed by the officials and the people have been barred to go inside its premises, due to its structural damages and unhealthy surroundings.
Michelle Bailey, the Spokeswoman for City of Winnipeg said that it’s not apparent whether the cats inside the home were kept by the owner. They are being fed with food and water by animal welfare workers. They will be rescued after the engineers make the building safe.
“The home is the "worst" case of squalor animal protection officers have ever seen. The access to the residence was obscured by excessive items and deplorable living conditions”, said Bill McDonald, Executive Director of Winnipeg Humane Society.
It is expected that there are seven grey and white feral cats inside the house. Among them, four have already been rescued by the officials. Two cats were euthanized and other two will also be given the same treatment, since all the cats cannot be adopted.
