Ireland`s St Laurence O'Toole Pipe Band attracted more than 53,000 people at Glasgow Green last night. The event declared the Dubliners as world pipe band champions, while the second place was acquired by Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band from Northern Ireland.

As told by Pipe Major Terry Tully, the band celebrated its 100th anniversary and the celebration lasted for three days, but the party for winning the championship will prolong further.

He said, "I never dreamt I'd be doing this and I think it was consistency that helped us along. It's fantastic. I feel fantastic".

The third position was captured by West Lothian's Bathgate & Boghall Caledonia Pipe Band.

In Glasgow, since last past 60 years, the event of World Pipe Band Championships has been taking place. Every year, a number of people come to enjoy it and to watch the performances of 8,000 of the most excellent pipers and drummers.

To compete with each other, 239 bands participated this year and out of them 133 were from Scotland alone. The competition entails nine hours of performance.

The standard of competition upgrades every year, but this year there was something special, as stated by Ian Embelton from the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association. He further added that they have started preparing for the next year also.
