First Oil-Free Catch Reported by Louisiana's Fishermen

In spite of a report by scientists that said that a lot of the crude oil lies underneath the floor of the Gulf, commercial shrimpers have said that their initial catch post the BP's catastrophic spill, is copious and devoid of crude.

It is observed that the summer season of the fishermen was consumed in cleaning up the mess that had been created by the massive oil spill. However, as the fall shrimping season in Louisiana's coastal waters started on Monday, they resumed work.

The fishermen were apprehensive whether the catch will be smeared with oil and fit for eating and would anybody purchase it even if it’s clean.

Brian Amos, a 53-year-old shrimper, who scouted in his 28-foot skiff, The Rolling Thunder, in a bay near Empire said that they haven’t witnessed any crude; there are no tar balls or anything.

This is a big news for the dock owners, restaurants and several other businesses that operate alongside the Louisiana coast. During the past four months, there had been a lull in their businesses, as fishing had been barred owing to the oil spill.

It is known that Louisiana is at the number one spot in shrimp, crawfish and oysters, blue crab. On the whole, the seafood industry of the state makes nearly $2.4 billion every year.
