It has been said by a security expert today that almost five million websites, which are hosted by Network Solutions, whose domains display messages like "page under construction" have been delivering malware via a widget, was later suspended over the weekend.
Nevertheless, malware is still found on the parked domains in form of a malicious script, which focuses IP addresses coming from Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at security firm Armorize, Wayne Huang said that it also offers fake chat message and readdresses to other Web sites.
He said that the Company is trying to examine the malware and it is still not clear as to what goes wrong, when the computers are redirected.
According to Huang, the malware was a part of "Small Business Success Index" widget and it was accessed by a lot of people; while some of these people also received this as a search when they searched for a specific thing.
With the initial analysis of the code, it was found that Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP was targeted by the malware in the widget, but other software could also have been affected by that.
“This widget was used to provide small business tips on Network Solutions' under construction pages. We have removed the widget from those pages and continue to check and monitor to ensure security”, said Network Solutions Spokeswoman Susan Wade.
