There is rampant egg recall due to the fears of a salmonella outbreak. Reports confirm that last Friday, as many as 228 million eggs, which were produced by Wright County Egg, were recalled. Post the confirmation of more salmonella cases in a number of states, the number further grew to 380 million.
The rampant recall of eggs is being implemented since Texas is in the grip of a salmonella outbreak, with the infection cases rising fourfold.
Though, the eggs have been recalled on a large scale; however, the state and local health officials are not completely sure if the outbreak is solely due to the tainted eggs.
Confirming the recall, on Thursday, Christine Mann, a Spokeswoman for the Texas Department of State Health Services said, "It is reasonable to assume that some of the illnesses may be connected to the egg recall, but we have not established a definitive link".
Further, even the state and local disease trackers confirmed that they were fraught and the specific reason for the outbreak was still not pinned down. However, they did not rule out the probability of the tainted eggs.
On the numbers front, it has been confirmed by the officials that till date, they are in the process of looking into 150 cases salmonella, which have been reported since mid-May. Also, as many as six cases have been confirmed from the Dallas County.
