According to a study published in the Journal JAMA, about 9 million Americans suffer from attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
The study also mentions that around 12 sessions of ‘cognitive and behavioral therapy’ can help in increasing the survival rate and efficiency among ADHD patients.
It is stated that the adult ADHD patients will become more organized and focused if they will undergo 9 months of specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy.
Dr. Safren says that the response rate among CBT patients was far better than those who underwent conventional treatment.
Till now, ADHD is treated with medicines only and experts believe that treating ADHD patients with a combination of medicine and CBT will improve the symptoms and sustain the improvement for a longer period of time.
These days, many mental disorders are treated with the use of cognitive behavioral therapy. The technique is also effective in the treatment of Tourette's syndrome, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Cognitive behavioral therapy is also found to help those people whose near-ones have committed suicide. It helps in dealing with self-blame and sorrow in them.
Brian Harrington, who is suffering from ADHD, says that earlier it was quite difficult to do many daily tasks effectively, but after receiving cognitive behavioral therapy life has become less stressful.
