The Government of Victoria has discarded the idea of buying property in the areas, which are at the higher risk of forest fires, but at the same time it has agreed with a new fire services tax.
It has been announced by the Premier John Brumby on Friday that out of 67 recommendations of the bushfires royal commission, the Government of Victoria would support 60 recommendations.
However, while making the announcement he hesitated as he emphasized on the need of replacing the state's ageing electricity infrastructure.
After the release of the Teague commission's final report on Friday, Mr. Brumby said that the new fire services tax would be backed by the Government, but according to the recommendations the areas which are at the risk of bushfires, should not be developed.
On the other hand, Government rejected the commission's recommendation to give shelter to the people who do not want to live in the high–risk bush fire areas.
"The reality is that if you applied this in some areas it would actually increase the fire risk, not reduce it", Mr. Brumby told reporters on Friday.
Mr. Brumby also said in his statement that replacing all the ageing power lines across Victoria would be very expensive.
