Pew Research Says Count of 50 and Above Users has Doubled

As per Pew Research, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter have successfully managed to attract by almost double the number of its users aged 50 and above.

A lot of senior populace has been making use of these social networking sites so as to reconnect with their yesteryear’s buddies and known people and also for forms of medical support.

Finding it as an easy and attractive way to reconnect with old friends, almost double the number of oldies than that of the last year has signed up with various social networking sites.

Pew Research depicted that 42% of 2,252 internet users comprise of those who are 50 and above, which is an increase in the number, as 22% users, belonging to 50 and above group, used social networking sites in the month of April 2009.

Pew informed that between April 2009 and May 2010, usage of social networking sites amongst 50 and above group increased by 88%. Fraction of people using these sites aged 65 and above increased from 13% to 26%.

Comparing that increase with the growth in number of young users using the social networking sites grew by a mere 13%.

The main reason behind joining these sites is plainly to reconnect with people with whom senior citizens may have lost connection.
