A big tiff that had been rolling between Disney and Time Warner Cable, which is the fourth biggest US pay-TV operator, concerning the payments for Disney’s ESPN broadband network, but now both the parties have come to terms, and a renewed deal is close to take place between the two giants.
Negotiations between the firms, which at one time had almost totally disappeared from the public eye, have now been facing tougher level stress since in the most recent years, the TV balance sheet has suffered quite an amount of loss, also because of the increasing digital alternatives like Hulu and Netflix.
Free-to-air networks have as well started fighting for payments that is termed as retransmission fees.
New Corp’s Fox also faced it against Time Warner Cable in this year, in regards to this fee, which as per the estimation made by Morgan will expand from $700m to $2.5bn by the year 2014.
Director-General of the BBC, Mark Thompson in the previous week spoke of the idea of charging this particular fee to the UK, demanding British Sky Broadcasting, which is the satellite broadcaster, partly possessed by News Corp, to reimburse ITV, Channel Four and Five for the broadcasts.
