Lack of Medical Care, Food, Plagues Pakistan Flood Victims

Lack of medical care and food has been plaguing the victims of the recent floods in Pakistan. The floods, which have left 6 million people homeless and 1600 dead, has shown up another ugly head of the fear of a widespread epidemic, as people try to move on with their lives.

Mr. Ashiq Hussain Malik, Medical Superintendent, Muzzafargarh, Punjab Province, Pakistan has stated, "Whatever stock of medicines we have is about to finish and the number of patients will increase in the coming days".

Victims after suffering at the hands of the slow pace of work being done by the Government have started to look towards Islamist charities connected with extremist terrorist groups. The situation is bound to get worse as more people are expected to come for medical aid at the Muzzafargarh hospital, which has already been taking care of 1000 people.

People in the hospital have been sleeping on the floor and the deplorable hygiene conditions have made matters worse, heightening the fear of an epidemic disaster.

The UN has already warned of a possible outbreak of diseases like typhoid, diarrhea, and other diseases like dengue and malaria.

The Pakistani Government faces a daunting task as the floods have affected the economic situation of the country and at the same time they it would have to raise money to rehabilitate victims and rebuild affected areas.
