Police Bust Drug Racket in Redfern

Five women and two men involved in a heroin racket were arrested in the inner Sydney suburb of Redfern. The crackdown comes as a result of Operation Guru, which had been surveying the flow of drugs and criminal activity since the past three months and half, in a house known as The Block in the area.

The arrests started at 10:00A. M in the morning with the arrest of two men and a woman at a house in Hugo Street. Simultaneously, two women were arrested in another house at Caroline Street, followed by the arrest of another woman an hour later in Redfern, though in another area.

The last person who was arrested had surrendered herself at the Redfern Police Station by 12:40P. M (A. E. S. T).

Redfern Local Police Superintendent Luke Freudenstein, stated, “Further arrests were possible, and warned that anyone entering Redfern to buy drugs would be arrested”.

It has been reported that of the seven people who were arrested only one man and two women were local residents, whereas the three other women who were arrested were residents of Waterloo, Marrickville and Chester Hill and the second man was a resident of Victoria.
