An astounded Obama administration would be looking to block the court ruling that had ordered the barring of public funds to be used for stem cell research. The Justice Department, which has already started proceedings to appeal against the decision made by Judge Royce Lamberth, U.S District Court, ruled the barring of funds for embryonic stem cell research.
According to the Government, stem cell research would remain to be a top priority for the administration and that it would do anything possible to get a stay on the ruling of the court.
The Judge’s decision, which stalls the research that is being done to find answers for incurable diseases, would come as a disappointment to many sick and injured people who would have benefited from stem cell research.
The Government has also stated that if there is not a stay on the decision by September 7, then it would move the court of appeals the day after.
While giving out the judgment, Judge Lamberth had stated a provision for federal spending bills, which prohibits the usage of public funds for research that involves destruction of human embryo.
The groups that had raised their objection regarding the usage of federal funds for embryonic stem cell research were led by the Christian Medical Association, which happens to be a non-profit organization.
